And finally, a selfie.
Now I’ve been natural, like no permed ends, since July 2011. Don’t get me wrong, I love my natural hair. But being in school, trying this fitness journey, and being active in school events; I am tired of staying up past 12 to finish my hair. I come in about 11 and won’t finish till 1 or 2. By then I’m so open eyed that I couldn’t go to sleep till 4 or 5!
I get compliments on my hair, there are days when I love it, and rushed mornings where I dislike it. I just..miss my straight hair.
I was like the f.k?! My co workers looked at me cause they know I usually say something back. I just looked at him and walked out cause it as time to go home, it was my last day, and I need a reference for another job. But that man is always giving ignorant as statements. And he’s Canadian…I’ll go back in a week or two and say what I have to say.
I think I enjoy being able to have curly big hair but I do miss straight hair dearly.
So, i think I want to perm my hair. Before I get the “Embrace your hair! But it’s pretty! Girl you better not!” talk, let me explain. I’mma let you finish though. (tehehe).
So I began this natural journey September 2010 because I had already cut my shoulder/shoulderblade relaxed hair into a short cut. My best friend convinced me to go natural so for a while I wore weaves and braids. The true reason was because after maybe a month, I missed my longer hair. I was sad most of the time and felt unattractive. About June 2011 my hair was long enough for me to cut the permed ends off. I did and wore my hair out and weaves occasionally. When I went off to college I started to embrace my hair more and would get a lot of compliments. But I still loved weaves. When my hair is straightened now it’s back at its original length from my relaxed days. But I live in Texas so it get’s puffy when I wear it with weaves. I’ve come to the conclusion that I love weaves and I feel like I am doing this only to satisfy everyone else because everyone says they love it on me or that I have “good hair”. No, I have my own hair and I honestly like kinkier hair. I sometimes think that maybe I’m doing this to fit into society but I LOVE my curls.
So there, maybe I am doing this to please others but I don’t want to disappoint them either.
So remember last year when I said I wanted streaks in my hair? Well….I did it! I went to the hair salon a few days after Christmas and got it done. The hairdresser bleached my hair in small sections with foil. Then we washed everything out and applied the red dye. I let my hair air dry so I wouldn’t have to get under the hair dryer again, (I was freaking out because of my long time under the dryer!)
All in all, this is my hair in January after letting the water run over it in a shower. I have been taking good care of my hair since it has chemicals in it. I am using so much moisturizing stuff than before. I have been slacking on the amount of water I drink because hey, I’m a college student…water is expensive…and the cafe has soda sitting in my face. But thank you all for your help on finding out how to add spark to my hair!
Oh and the three pictures are of my hair now. One is my hair curled on a 300-350 degree temperature flat iron. The other picture is of my hair flat ironed. Yes girl I know I need a trim. Doing that this weekend….if that money comes in! Lol!
This is my hair care washing regimen. I use all of these products when I wash my hair. I’m washing it now and I felt like sharing my products with all of you!
Cantu Shea Butter Shampoo and Conditioner-Walmart $4.98 each
Olive Oil Deep Conditioner-Walmart $1.98
Jane Carter Solutions Leave in Conditioner-Target $9
Care Free Curl Activator-Sally’s $5
Olive Oil Hair Moisturizer-Walmart $4
I use this all as my current products and get the results that best suits me. I would do two strand twist in medium to big sections. I tie my hair down with a satin bonnet then take them out in the morning. To get my hair to look fuller, I use mousse on the strands then seperate them.
I’ll continue to keep you guys updated. Let me know what you think may be good products for my hair. (Remember I’m on a college budget!)
Natural hair it amazing to me. I love the feeling of being free.
